Do I Need A Dance Partner?
You don’t need to bring a partner to attend any of the classes. The ballroom and latin sessions usually involve changing dance partners.
Most couples who attend do mix, creating a friendly, social atmosphere which welcomes all beginners. Everyone has been new at some point and this is why everyone is happy to assist new dancers.
If you wish to stay with a fixed partner by your own arrangement, this is possible by contacting us prior to the session.
If attending as a beginner couple, changing partners is particularly recommended as it can be very challenging to learn new dance styles when your dance partner cannot assist.
Before Attending
Before joining us its best to contact our teacher James directly.
The classes are held every Tuesday including school holidays with only a break in December for Christmas break, but classes can always be cancelled for events out of our control such as venue refurbishment or extreme weather conditions.
It’s advised to contact James before joining if you have never danced before so that you can join when we start a new dance routine, rather than join half way through as this would be very difficult to catch up. Usually a class will consist of a routine that spans over 4-6weeks for the ballroom and latin dancing classes or 1-3weeks for solo dancing classes. This can depend on a lot of circumstances, mainly the complexity of a specific routine, for this reason there is no solid schedule on how long dance routines can take. If you contact our instructor using the details below he can advise exactly when the best time to join would be at any time in year.
Each week covers a recap of the steps learnt in previous weeks and a progression with further steps in the dance routine. This means its never an issue for those who have missed any week due to other commitments, as its easier to catch up. There is also a practice session following the classes to social dance, practice or ask questions from the teacher. The dancing classes in Lancaster are not run as a course and its expected not everyone can attend 100% of the sessions throughout the year, don’t worry if you are not able to make every single week. Admission is cash on the door and no course fee so there is pressure to sign up and nothing to lose, its definitely worth giving a try even if you think you have two left feet.
